There is not a single being on this earth that has not played with some game at various stages of his/her life (from infancy right up to old age). There are very simple games and complicated games which train the body, the emotions, the brain or the intellect. This research analytically presents the whole structure of games and common archetypal elements that games contain in every population all over the world, which originated from the ancient Greek and European culture, especially of the ancient Greek philosophy about the way of creating of writing and ancient board games in the region of Messinia.

Backgammon Tactics
This is a basic beginner's book on Backgammon. In spite of the claims made on the cover here of being the last word on the subject, this is actually the first word. The author gives 50 problems and their solutions. There are explanations of the reasons why the solutions are correct. This book is a good two to three hour read. I wish I had this book when I was learning backgammon. It would have saved me a lot of time. Do not expect to find any advanced computer analysis here. Ishi Press has brought back this long been out of print book because most of the current books are so advanced that they will discourage anybody thinking of taking up the game. We have checked the solutions to the 50 problems in this book and they are all still correct. I would recommend this book as suitable for a gift to a friend who wants to learn how to play. The friend will be lured into thinking that Backgammon is an easy game. Many players make their living at backgammon. Only a few of the strongest chess players in the United States are able to make their living playing chess. However, there are hundreds and perhaps thousands of backgammon players who are able to earn a good living at this game. In reality, backgammon is one of the few games that has defied computer analysis. Nowadays there are a dozen chess playing programs that can easily defeat the World Champion at chess. However, no program has solved backgammon.

Computer Games II
Computer Games II is the second volume in a two-part compendium of papers covering the most important material available on the development of computer strategy games. These selections range from discussions of mathematical analysis of games, to more qualitative concerns of whether a computer game should follow human thought processes rather than a "brute force" approach, to papers which will benefit readers trying to program their own games. Next to chess, more has been written about computer Go than any other strategy game. Selections by Bruce Wilcox, a major contributor to the development of computer Go, are included here. This volume also contains papers on Othello, a game of pure skill which has been programmed successfully enough to win against a human World Champion, and Poker, which adds the dimensions of bluff and uncertainty to the challenge of computer game programming. Games in this volume include: OthelloPoker GoHearts Go-MokuBridge BridgeQubic DominoesPush-Over DamaChemin-De-Fer Othello is a registered trademark of the Anjar Company, Inc. Computer Games I, the companion volume, covers the following games: Backgammon Chess Checkers Scrabble David Levy, the editor of these volumes, is an International Chess Master. He is chairman of a company in England which specializes in programming strategy games.
